In the horrific terrorist attack that took place yesterday on Bondi Beach in Sydney, when the suspects Navid Akram (24) and his father (50) opened fire on the crowd during the Hanukkah celebration, 16 people died, while 42 were injured. There are no Serbian citizens among the dead and injured in Sydney, stated the Ambassador of Serbia in Australia, Rade Stefanović. And according to the latest information obtained by “Blic”, the younger attacker possessed a membership card of the “Zastava” hunting society, which is run by Serbs.

Namely, after the terrorist attack in Sydney was carried out, the driver’s license of the suspect Navid Akram (24) was found at the scene, and according to the data, he was born on August 12, 2001.

Below the driver’s license, a membership card for a hunting club from New South Wales, (“Zastava Hunting Association”), whose owners are Serbs, could also be seen. In addition to recreational hunting, a part of the Serbian community in Sydney gathers in this association, organizing parties and social gatherings.

Vanja Kužet, president of the “Zastava” hunting association from Sydney, confirms in an exclusive statement for “Blic” that the younger attacker, Navid Akram, possessed their membership card.

“He had our membership card, but the permit is obtained through the police”

-That man has not been coming to us for more than five years, I don’t remember, nor do I remember his face. He had our membership card, but we do not issue gun permits. The permit is obtained through the police, we are not authorized persons, we only conduct training. We treat him like any client – explains the president of the “Zastava” hunting club for “Blic”.

As he points out, he has already been contacted by the Australian Federal Police.

“It’s terrible what happened”

-He came to us for training then, it was a safety training, i.e. how to hunt in New South Wales. We conduct hunting for deer, wild boars, goats. We neither support nor associate with such crimes and it is terrible what happened – says Vanja Kužet for “Blic”.

By the way, the “Zastava” hunting club is located about 50 km from the shooting site in Sydney, in the Australian state of New South Wales.

-We are also a hunting association, but also a community of Serbs in this part of Australia, there are about 42,000 Serbs in Sydney alone. We gather, socialize – says the president of the hunting society for “Blic”, which can otherwise be seen on their social network profiles.

Who is the suspect in the Sydney terrorist attack

According to the Facebook page of the suspect Navid Akram, he studied at Central Queensland University in Sydney and Hamdard University in Islamabad. He also attended the Al Murad Institute.

As the media write, nothing on his social media profile indicated his religious or political beliefs.

New South Wales Police have not officially confirmed this information yet.

Attack suspects were trained

Weapon experts analyzed the means used in the deadly attack on Bondi Beach. According to their knowledge, the younger attacker used a Ruger brand sporting rifle with a red dot sight.

The older attacker Sajid, Navid Akram’s father, appeared to be armed with a semi-automatic shotgun, also equipped with the same type of sight. A third weapon was also used in the attack which has not yet been identified, “Sky News” writes.

The sporting rifle used by one of the attackers is more suitable for shooting at longer distances, and experts also noted that the sight on it was not adjusted.

Massacre on the beach at the Hanukkah celebration

Based on the available footage, it is estimated that the suspects were trained.

In the shooting, which the Australian authorities characterized as a terrorist attack, at the celebration of Hanukkah, the Jewish festival of lights, on Bondi Beach in Sydney, at least 16 people were killed, including one of the two attackers, and 42 people were wounded, the police of the Australian state of New South Wales announced.
