The attacker in front of the National Assembly of Serbia is Vladan A., born in 1955 in Belgrade, said the President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić at a press conference.
“He resides in the Municipality of Stari Grad. He committed, and this is my political assessment and as a lawyer, a terrible terrorist attack on other persons and private property, he caused general danger. And the final qualification of the act will be given by the competent prosecutor’s office,” said Vučić.
As he stated, if he is right, the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime (TOK) will deal with it, and if not, the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade.
“Since 1993, this person has been in possession of a ‘Crvena Zastava M99’ pistol, he discharged a pistol of the same make in 2018, when we conducted the action of taking weapons from people, and since 2018 he has a registered ‘Melior’ brand pistol, which is an old weapon,” said Vučić.
Worked for State Security until 1993
Vučić also said that Vladan A. had previously worked for State Security (DB).
“Otherwise, he tried to act crazy, because he is an experienced man who worked in State Security until ’93, for 16 years,” Vučić stated, specifying that the arrested person is currently a pensioner, and was previously employed in the company “Olja market” and in another independent shop.
“During 2009, he briefly worked for ‘Beograd Trade’ from Belgrade,” said Vučić.
Milan B. was wounded
Vučić also said that Milan B., a father of two children, was wounded in front of the tent.
“His daughter is a student, and she is one of those who wanted to attend classes, to study,” he said.
According to Vučić, “it was a matter of time before something like this would happen.”
“This has been called for many times, it could have happened anywhere, but it was mostly expected in Ćacilend, where such hatred and aggression were induced, both against students who want to study and against people who occupied one point in the city… Unlike others who occupied faculties and many other places,” said Vučić.
Vučić reiterates that a firearm was used.

“And the goal was to cause general danger, with an unambiguous and clear political motive. Where he says that the tents in the city center, where he was born, annoy him,” he added.
Vučić also finds it “strange” that, as he said, several persons knew exactly which object and what to film, referring to opposition MPs who published videos of the fire and the arrest of the suspect on social networks.
The President of Serbia also said that gatherings of citizens who are against the blockades were planned for tonight and tomorrow, but he called on them not to do so.
“I saw how much anger all this caused, I hear that those who are against the blockaders are planning various gatherings, I ask them not to do anything and to leave the competent authorities to do their job. It is a miracle that in 11 months we have not had people killed in the streets, given the lies that were spoken,” said Vučić.
A video was shown at the conference in which the arrested person answers police questions about the motives for the attack.
In the video, the suspect is heard saying that he wanted to set the tent on fire with gasoline, that the police can check that he poured it on Francuska Street. He also says that he did it because “he doesn’t like the tents, because they are in the center of the city where he was born.” And when asked why he did it, he said that he “wanted to be killed.”
Vladica Ilić from the Belgrade Centre for Human Rights told N1 that Vučić endangered the procedure with this action.
