The National Assembly of Republika Srpska, at its 27th special session, adopted the Decision on the appointment of Ana Trišić Babić as the Acting President of Republika Srpska.
48 deputies voted in favor of this decision, while four voted against. There were no abstentions, and the majority of opposition deputies, namely from the SDS and PDP, did not attend the vote.
The reasoning for the decision stated that, under the conditions of the unconstitutional and unlawful actions of the Court of BiH and the Central Election Commission, whose decisions prevent the democratically elected President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, from performing his function, the National Assembly is acting to protect the Constitution of Srpska.
The appointment of Ana Trišić Babić as the Acting President of Republika Srpska until the election of a new one should enable the smooth functioning of the institution of the President of the Republic, RTRS reports.
For the parliamentary majority, the appointment is a forced move that represents an attempt to emerge from the biggest crisis in BiH.
The President of the NSRS, Nenad Stevandić, explained that this situation is not recognized in the Constitution of Srpska and BiH, and that the preamble of the Constitution defines the National Assembly as competent to resolve such issues.
