American President Donald Trump wrote that he had a “very good and productive” phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, saying that “there is a very good chance that this terrible, bloody war will finally end.” Although it was initially thought that the American leader spoke with his Russian counterpart, this did not happen.
The confusion was caused by Trump’s earlier post on social media, in which he praised talks with the Russian leader and said “I strongly asked President Putin,” which sounds like he spoke with Putin personally. With the Russian leader, the American leader’s envoy, Steve Vitkoff, who stayed in Moscow yesterday, spoke.

Trump wrote that he raised the issue of Ukrainian troops in Kursk with Putin, calling on him “to spare their lives” after they were surrounded by Russian troops.
“We had very good and productive talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin yesterday, and there is a great chance that this terrible, bloody war will finally end – but at this moment, thousands of Ukrainian soldiers are completely surrounded by the Russian army and are in an extremely difficult and sensitive situation. I strongly asked President Putin to spare their lives. This would be a terrible massacre, not seen since World War II. God bless them all!!!” the American president wrote on the social network “Truth Social.”
