U.S. launches “revenge” strike on ISIS targets after National Guard soldiers killed
The United States carried out military strikes against the Islamic State in Syria on Friday, fulfilling President Donald Trump’s promise to avenge the deaths of two Iowa National Guard soldiers who were killed in a terrorist attack in the country last week.
U.S. military forces used more than 100 precision-guided munitions to strike over 70 targets at suspected ISIS locations around the ancient city of Palmyra in central Syria. The action was conducted as part of Operation “Hawkeye Storm”, a reference to Iowa, which is known as the “Hawkeye State.”
“Earlier today, U.S. forces initiated OPERATION HAWKEYE STRIKE in Syria to eliminate ISIS fighters, their infrastructure, and weapons stockpiles, as a direct response to the attack on U.S. forces that occurred on December 13 in Palmyra,” Secretary of War Pete Hegseth wrote on the platform X.
“This is not the beginning of a war — this is a declaration of revenge,” he added.
“The United States, under the leadership of President Trump, will never hesitate or retreat from defending our people.”

The secretary noted that anyone who targets Americans anywhere in the world will spend the rest of their days looking over their shoulder and will be marked for elimination.
Trump vowed retaliation against the terrorist group after Sgt. Edgar Brian Torres-Tovar (25) of Des Moines and Sgt. William Nathaniel Howard (29) of Marshalltown, along with interpreter Ayad Mansur Sakat of Michigan, were killed on Saturday during a meeting with local leaders. The meeting was part of their mission supporting ongoing counterterrorism operations against ISIS in the region.

The attacker was killed by partner forces.
“Because of the brutal murder of brave American patriots in Syria by ISIS — whose beautiful souls I welcomed home to American soil earlier this week with a dignified ceremony — I hereby announce that the United States is carrying out a very serious retaliation, just as I promised, against the bloodthirsty terrorists responsible,” Trump wrote on Truth Social on Friday.
He said U.S. forces are striking ISIS strongholds in Syria, “a place soaked in blood that has many problems, but which has a bright future if ISIS can be eradicated.” He added that the Syrian government supported the strikes carried out on Friday.
Trump also issued a warning to anyone who seeks to harm Americans.
“All terrorists wicked enough to attack Americans are hereby warned — YOU WILL BE HIT HARDER THAN EVER BEFORE IF YOU IN ANY WAY ATTACK OR THREATEN THE UNITED STATES,” he wrote.
Navy Admiral Brad Cooper, commander of U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), said U.S. forces will relentlessly pursue terrorists who seek to harm Americans and partner forces.
“This operation is critical to preventing ISIS from inspiring terrorist plots and attacks against the American homeland,” he said in a statement.
