The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has requested support for anti-immigrant actions from a military base on the outskirts of Chicago, the AP reported.
This is an indication of what the expanded scope of anti-immigrant measures could look like in the third-largest city in the U.S.
The Department of Homeland Security requested from the Great Lakes naval base “limited support in the form of facilities, infrastructure, and other logistical needs to support the operations of the Department of Homeland Security,” said Matt Mogl, a spokesperson for the base, which is located 56 kilometers north of Chicago.
The request came a few weeks after the Republican administration deployed National Guard troops to Washington to fight crime, immigration, and homelessness.
Two months earlier, it had sent troops to Los Angeles due to major unrest caused by anti-immigrant actions.
