Dragan P. and Marko G., young men aged 32 and 34, both from Banja Koviljača, passed away, as suspected, due to poisoning from exhaust gases from a generator in a holiday home on the banks of the Drina.

Their bodies were found this morning on the banks of the Drina river, in an unfinished holiday home where work had been carried out in previous days, it was confirmed by sources close to the investigation.

According to initial information, the victims were well-known and respected young men from Banja Koviljača. As locals state, they were working on adapting the holiday home yesterday, but since they did not manage to finish the planned tasks, they decided to stay overnight in the facility.

It is suspected that the tragedy occurred due to poisoning from exhaust gases from a generator that was turned on during the night.

It is assumed that this very device was fatal, because carbon monoxide accumulated in the enclosed space, a gas that is odorless and colorless, but extremely dangerous to life.

The bodies were found this morning, and police officers and competent services came to the scene and conducted an investigation. The investigation is ongoing and should determine all the circumstances of this unfortunate event.

The news of the tragedy shook Banja Koviljača. Locals speak about the two young men with disbelief and sadness, emphasizing that they were honest, diligent, and hardworking guys, always ready to help others.

“We cannot come to our senses. This is a great sadness for all of us”

“We cannot come to our senses. This is a great sadness for all of us,” says one of the neighbors.

This tragedy once again drew attention to the dangers of using generators and other devices that produce exhaust gases in closed or insufficiently ventilated spaces.

Social networks were flooded with poignant messages of farewell, and as those who knew them say, they were hardworking and honorable guys.

“I knew both of them. Very good people, honorable guys. Hardworking. Marko loved the Drina and fishing very much. Dragan always loved a joke. Rest in peace dear friends,” “Dear God, Marko was my schoolmate, from high school. Condolences to the families,” “They wanted to fix up the holiday home before the summer, so they could enjoy it… A great tragedy,” the posts state.
