Carriers from the region are blocking freight border terminals for the third day due to the new entry and exit system for the European Union, but also the inadequate reaction of the European Commission and Schengen countries regarding the treatment of professional drivers and the limitation of their stay in the Schengen zone.

In addition to the borders in the region, the administrative crossings of Jarinje, Brnjak, and Merdare are also under blockade, reports Radio-Television of Serbia.

The head of the Center for Regional Cooperation of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce (PKS), Aleksandar Radovanović, told RTS that the longer the blockades last, the more severe the consequences will be.

According to PKS data, the region will lose one hundred million euros on a daily basis just based on non-exported products, and the most vulnerable will be the automotive, chemical, and rubber industries, as well as agriculture as a significant production branch of Serbia.

Radovanović believes that because of this situation, there is a great danger of losing a part of the European market, and that an economic collapse could occur if supply chains are disrupted and if it is not possible to import and export goods.

According to him, this is not just a question of the transport sector, but of the economy of the entire region.

“This issue requires an urgent solution; exemption from the EES system would now satisfy the needs for the economy to function normally, to enable the transport of goods from this market to the EU market,” said Radovanović.
