Students of the State University in Novi Pazar have been on edge since yesterday because their colleagues were detained, as they claim, for no reason at all. They told Nova.rs that the police broke into the homes of Hamza Zizkić, a freshman at DUNP, and Nikola Marjanović, also a freshman originally from Pazar who studies in Kragujevac.
“They seized their phones and laptops, they were in shock, they didn’t know what hit them. They didn’t know the reason why they were detained until they got there. Allegedly, they were detained for threatening Aleksandar Vučić and violating the constitutional order,” says Dina, a DUNP student, for the Nova.rs portal.
She adds that their colleagues remain in custody, while a lawyer will try today to find out what it is all about.
“When they were taken, they spent three to four hours inside and were told that no evidence would be presented at all regarding what they are accused of, but that they would be held in custody for 48 hours, and only at the hearing would they be told. And all of that is just to fabricate evidence, of course. Shameful,” she emphasizes.
DUNP students organized a protest gathering in front of the detention facility where their colleagues were taken.
“This no longer makes sense. The police are breaking into our homes as if we are the biggest criminals, while real criminals walk freely through the city,” she adds.
A DUNP student who is also at the gathering says that the families of their colleagues are disturbed.
“It is shameful for their families that they are being treated this way. They did not threaten anyone – neither Aleksandar Vučić, nor the state of Serbia, no one. Serbia is our country and we are its people, no one wants to destroy it, except the president himself,” this student told us.
Inas Hodžić also told our portal that the atmosphere is “heated” because students are being arrested “for no reason.”
“We will wait to see whether there will be a hearing today or not. We want them to know that we stand with them. It is shameful what is being done to our students,” he said.
