Members of the Perić family, their relatives and neighbors gathered today in Gračanica, because a new Albanian neighbor, without prior notice, removed the memorial plaque of their daughter Biljana and threw it by the roadside. “Our daughter was killed at this spot 30 years ago by an Albanian in a car, and now they are killing her again,” said the girl’s father, Vukomir Perić.
The Albanian, who recently bought the property from a Serb on “Cara Lazara” street in Gračanica, unilaterally removed the memorial plaque by the roadside two days ago.
Although the roadside monument is located outside the new neighbor’s property and next to the Priština-Gnjilane highway, the owner, for reasons known only to him, decided to remove the plaque.
“The new neighbor removed the memorial plaque of my deceased child, which has been in this place for 30 years. It bothered no one, but now it bothers him. On Sunday afternoon, he came, took a grinder, cut the plaque, and threw it aside,” visibly upset Vukomir Perić, the father of 11-year-old Biljana, who died in 1995, told the media.
He states that he reported the case to the police and inspection, as well as to the authorities in the Municipality of Gračanica, and that he expects one of them to react.
“After 30 years, I am again in mourning today, because they are killing my child for the second time,” the father of the deceased girl said on the verge of tears.
Vukomir’s son Aleksandar says he reported the case to the police, who visited the scene and made a report, but, he adds, the police told him that without a report from the municipal inspection, they cannot hand over the case to the prosecutor.
“The inspection says that the land is registered under road infrastructure and that they are not competent for this part here, and that’s where it ends. The police are asking me for a report. They said that a municipal inspector should come to the scene, they say they are not competent, I have been chasing around the municipality and the inspection for two days to get any paper, because I want to sue. Everyone declares themselves incompetent and passes the buck from one to another,” Aleksandar Perić points out.
The removal of the memorial plaque is an desecration of the place where their daughter died for the family, and they announce a lawsuit against the new owner of the neighboring property, invoking the Constitution and the Law on the Protection and Advancement of Community Rights, which includes the protection of roadside monuments.
