In Višnjička Banja, illegal car races have been organized several nights in a row. Residents say that this also happens near residential buildings. The police also have reports that in certain parts of the city, some drivers gamble with their own and others’ lives in this way.
Neither a start nor a finish line, but dangers in abundance. Arrogant night drivers were filmed by the residents of the Sunnyville neighborhood in Višnjička Banja.
Parents with small children and other residents of this neighborhood most often pass through here.
Residents did not want to go before the cameras, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs told us that this event was not reported to the traffic police, but a dangerous night race in the “Ikea” zone was. Such incidents can end with only material damage, but there have also been cases with fatal outcomes.
“As experts, we sometimes see through the forensic examination of a traffic accident—based on some parameters—that we can suspect it might be about illegal races, but we never have explicit evidence where they tell you: ‘we were racing and then the traffic accident occurred.’ So, based on some parameters, we can suspect it, but we don’t have explicit proof that it happened and why it happened,” says Milan Božović, a traffic safety expert.
According to experts, such races are most often organized where there is lower traffic frequency. In previous years, they took place on the Batajnica road, in Resnik, on the Ostružnica bridge, but also in the city center, in the Terazije tunnel.
“What is characteristic of them is that the roadway needs to be wide enough for two cars side by side. Most often they do that type of racing, side by side, to see who arrives faster. They don’t do the kind of race where there is a certain section of the road and they measure time on that section,” explains Božović.
Traces of car tires could even be seen in the memorial park in Jajinci, which, according to witnesses, has repeatedly served as a training ground for arrogant drivers.
