Ivana Španović ended her competition at the World Championship already in the qualifications! The Serbian athlete did not achieve the desired result in her debut at the global event in the triple jump.
Ivana Španović decided not to defend the long jump champion title she won in Budapest, but instead to compete only in the triple jump in Tokyo.
This season, Španović has cleared 14 meters – she won the national title with a result of 14.43. However, in Japan she failed to surpass that mark.
In the first series, she achieved her best result of 13.82 meters. In the second attempt, she did significantly worse, was extremely dissatisfied with the jump – and on the official site it was recorded as a foul. In her last attempt, she landed at 13.66.
Since she failed to improve her result, she remained outside the top 12, the number that, according to the rules, advances to the final. Thus, she ended her participation in the competition in Tokyo.
Lejanis Pérez Hernández, Yulimar Rojas, Liadagmis Povea, and Thea Lafond reached the final with the qualifying mark of 14.35 meters. Also competing for medals will be Jasmine Moore, Shanieka Ricketts, Ackelia Smith, Carolina Joye, Maja Askag, Neja Filipič, and Tugba Danışmaz as the last qualifier, with exactly 14 meters.
It should be noted that neither Armin Sinančević in shot put nor Milica Gardašević in long jump passed the qualifications.
Serbia will still have three representatives – Angelina Topić will compete in high jump qualifications on Thursday at 12:15, while Adriana Vilagoš and Marija Vučenović will fight for a spot in the javelin throw final on Friday at 12:30.
