The Serbian national football team suffered a heavy defeat in the Group K derby of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
The Eagles lost to England 5-0 (0-2) at Belgrade’s Marakana in front of more than 40,000 spectators.
The scorers for the visitors were Kane in the 33rd minute, Madueke in the 35th minute, Konsa in the 52nd minute, Guehi in the 75th minute, and Rashford in the 90th minute from a penalty.
England has practically cemented first place in the group and direct qualification for the World Cup, while Serbia will have a big fight for second place and progress to the playoffs. After tonight’s matches, England is first with a maximum of 15 points from five games. After their victory over Latvia, Albania is second with eight points from five games, while Serbia is now third with seven points from four games. Next is Latvia with four points from five games, and at the bottom is Andorra with no points from five games.
Serbia will play their next match, by all accounts a decisive one, on October 7 against Albania on their home ground.
England arrived in Belgrade practically without a complete team. Big stars like Bellingham, Saka, Stones, Alexander-Arnold, Lewis-Skelly, Palmer, Foden, Grealish, and Walker were missing.
However, that did not disrupt them from imposing their tempo from the start. And they practically pushed Serbia into the 16-meter box in the opening minutes.
