The pre-trial panel of the High Court in Novi Sad rejected as unfounded the appeal of the defense attorney of the suspect Bogdan Jovičić, filed against the decision of the pre-trial judge, which extended the detention of the named suspect.

“According to the opinion of the panel, and contrary to the appeal allegations of the defense attorney, the pre-trial judge, when making the decision on the extension of detention, correctly established all the facts that are relevant, and thus correctly found that there are special circumstances indicating that the suspect, in a short period of time, if he were released, could repeat the criminal offense, as well as circumstances indicating the existence of public unrest that could endanger the smooth and fair conduct of the criminal proceedings,” the statement said.

Also, according to the opinion of the panel, for now, the same purpose cannot be achieved with a milder measure, and in this specific case, detention is the only adequate measure for the purpose of the smooth conduct of the criminal proceedings, they conclude.

Lawyer Srđan Kovačević announced further legal steps after the High Court in Novi Sad rejected the appeal requesting the lifting of the detention for the student Bogdan Jovičić.

“We will respond in accordance with legal possibilities to this catastrophic decision,” Kovačević said in a statement to FoNet.
