The wife of the President of Serbia, Tamara Vučić, stated today in Washington that the well-being of children in the digital environment requires their education, and emphasized that Serbia’s goal is to empower children so that they can recognize dangers in the digital world.

She said this at the State Department during the summit of the global coalition “Together Building the Future,” which was attended by spouses of presidents from several countries around the world, and which was opened by the wife of the President of the United States, Melania Trump.

Tamara Vučić and Melania Trump greeted each other in Serbian and shook hands. As heard in the recording, Melania asked Tamara: “How are you?”, to which she replied: “Good, thank you,” in Serbian.

“We live in two worlds – digital and real, offline and online – and we can neither ignore nor ban them. The Republic of Serbia is guided by the idea that well-being in the digital environment, as well as in real life, is a path to personal development, which requires education, not just restrictions. Therefore, instead of short-term restrictive measures, we promote digital immunity,” Tamara Vučić said.

She added that Serbia’s goal is not to “isolate” children, but to empower them so they can recognize dangers in the digital world.

“Serbia has introduced programming in all elementary schools, as well as the subject ‘Digital World’ from the first grade. The basics of understanding artificial intelligence have become part of the curriculum in both elementary and secondary schools and, according to UNESCO data, we are one of only 11 countries in the world that have successfully implemented this,” said the wife of the President of Serbia.
