Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Đurić stated that the inauguration of the new U.S. President, Donald Trump, in the White House will bring significant shifts in American foreign policy, which will indirectly impact Serbia.
“I expect efforts to be made to steer the world away from the path of widespread destabilization, which would be politically and economically significant for Serbia. Although we have found ways to ensure that international crises affect us less traumatically than others, we are still part of global economic chains, and stabilizing the global situation is undeniably in our interest,” Đurić said in today’s Politika.

“We also have certain expectations regarding Serbian-American bilateral cooperation, but at this moment, the wisest course is to be patient and wait for the transition of power in Washington,” Đurić added.
He emphasized that Serbia remains firmly committed to its strategic goal of European Union membership, basing this commitment on its economic and political interests.
“As President Vučić has announced, we will complete everything within our responsibility by the end of 2026. Then, once our reforms are complete, the burden of decision-making will rest on the EU,” Đurić assessed.
Addressing developments in Kosovo and Metohija, Đurić said that Serbia is conducting its investigation into the attack on the Ibar-Lepenica canal but that it is too early to point fingers.
“Anyone capable of basic reasoning can see that Serbia has nothing to do with the sabotage in Zubin Potok,” he stressed.
“That is why we will insist on resolving this matter thoroughly. We will not allow Kurti to escape accountability for this attempt to destabilize the region under the pretext of ‘the dog barks, the wind carries.’ We will demand that the international community closely monitor the investigation and ensure that those who play with the peace and stability of the region are not granted amnesty,” Đurić concluded.
