Today, in front of the Consulate of the Republic of Serbia in Chicago, the fifth rally in support of student protests in Serbia was held. Statehood Day and the national holiday of Sretenje were the reason the gathering was moved from Sunday to Saturday this time.

As before, the attendees paid tribute to the victims at the Novi Sad Railway Station with 15 minutes of silence.

They held signs reading: “Being kind is in again,” “Sretenje has come, when will fulfillment,” “Chicago stands with students,” “Chi-town stands with šajkača,” “From somewhere far away, tambourines can be heard,” “Your hands are bloody,” and others…

Nenad Bumbić, one of the organizers, asked those present not to use the protest “for political purposes, neither left nor right”:

He called on demonstrators to vote in the Facebook group on whether the next support rally would be held on Saturday or Sunday. The meeting place remains the same, in front of the Consulate of the Republic of Serbia.

While the organizer was announcing the vote, a voice from the crowd was heard saying: “God willing, next time there won’t be a need for us to come!”

God willing.
