SON OF SARAJEVO’S CULTURE MINISTER ARRESTED OVER SUSPECTED ARSON: Factory of famous basketball player Džanan Musa’s yachts burned down!

Police officers arrested several people on suspicion that they set fire to the premises of the “Derubis Yachts” factory in Vitez on August 21. Among those detained, according to media reports, is the underage son of Sarajevo Canton Minister of Culture and Sports Kenan Magoda.

After the information became public, Minister Magoda also spoke out, saying that the detention of his son was one of the most difficult moments of his life, but that the competent institutions must professionally and impartially establish all the facts, without privileges for anyone.

“This is undoubtedly one of the most difficult moments in my life, above all as a father. For years, as a public figure, I have been exposed to various media attacks, accusations and attempts at discrediting me. I have learned to deal with that. But today my minor child has been brought into the public eye, and therefore I must react calmly, responsibly and without hiding behind the position I hold,” Magoda said.

He emphasized that he fully supports the Prosecutor’s Office and police in order for the case to be fully investigated.

“I give my full support to the Prosecutor’s Office and police to professionally, impartially and thoroughly establish all the facts. If the claims being made today prove to be true and if my child is found responsible, as a father I will demand that he face the strictest consequences provided for by law,” the cantonal minister stated.

At the same time, Magoda appealed to the public and media not to draw premature conclusions, reminding them that this concerns a minor, Klix reports.

“My surname must be neither his protection nor an extenuating circumstance. This must be a life lesson for him, but also a clear message to my other children that everyone must be held accountable for their actions. At the same time, I ask the public and media to bear in mind that this is a minor and not to pass judgment before the competent authorities establish all the facts,” Magoda said.

He added that he would not speculate about information appearing in public, nor did he want the investigation to be conducted through the media. As he stated, there are certain circumstances and pieces of information that he will discuss when the time comes and when he is certain that revealing them will not jeopardize the investigation.

At the end, he once again called on the competent institutions to do their job without any pressure or preferential treatment.

“Until then, I have only one request: let the institutions do their job. Without pressure, without privileges and without protecting anyone. Before every position I hold, I am a father. And precisely because of that, today I am not asking for a privilege for my child. I am asking only for the truth,” Magoda emphasized.

Major material damage caused by the fire

The fire at the premises of “Derubis Yachts” in Vitez broke out in the early hours of August 21. The flames engulfed campers that were located in the factory’s open area and caused major material damage.

Thanks to the quick intervention of firefighters, the fire was prevented from spreading to the main production facility.

Company co-owner Lejla Kraljević said after the fire that the available evidence indicated that the blaze was likely deliberately started. She stressed that the most important thing was that there were no human casualties, and that she expected police to find those responsible and that they be appropriately punished.

One of the co-owners of the Bosnian-Herzegovinian yacht manufacturing company since 2023 is also Bosnia and Herzegovina basketball national team player Džanan Musa.

The investigation into all the circumstances surrounding the fire, as well as possible motives, is still ongoing.
