The Higher Court in Novi Sad announced today that in civil proceedings for damages for members of the family of one of those who died in the canopy collapse at the Railway Station in Novi Sad, the financial compensation was reduced from five million to 3.5 million dinars, which is to be paid by the company Infrastructure of Serbian Railways.
On the court’s website it was announced, regarding the lawsuit of B.R. and others against the company Infrastructure of Serbian Railways and the Republic of Serbia for damages, that the Court of Appeal in Novi Sad, deciding on the appeals at a session on February 25, issued a ruling partially amending the judgment of the Higher Court in Novi Sad from June 17 last year.
As stated, the defendants are obliged to pay, in the name of compensation for non-material damage for the suffered mental pain due to the death of a close person, to the plaintiff B.R. the amount of 3.5 million dinars instead of the amount of five million dinars, and to the plaintiffs B.P. and I.R. the amount of three million dinars each instead of the amount of five million dinars each, and to the plaintiff M.R. 2.5 million dinars instead of 4.5 million dinars, all with statutory default interest.
In the explanation of its decision, the second-instance court states that the awarded amounts represent fair monetary compensation for the suffered mental pain due to the death of a close person.
