From our special correspondents in Melbourne

Novak Djokovic is in excellent spirits as he prepares for tonight’s second-round match of the Australian Open against the Portuguese Jaime Faria (ranked 125th in the world), at least judging by his mood during last night’s meeting with his fans who traveled to the smallest continent from all over the world.

Although there’s usually a lot of tension around players, especially the favorites, Novak arrived smiling at the scheduled meeting with members of his fan clubs, among whom we, members of his FAM club from Chicago, were the loudest.

But we can be, after all, we are ours 🙂

Djokovic was very relaxed and full of confidence. He spent more time talking to the fans than planned.

Among them were Laura and Lorenzo, an Italian couple who took the opportunity to give Novak a scrapbook and talk to him in Italian.

Although they knew he spoke their language, they were amazed at how much he had perfected it and how fluently he spoke it.

There were also Ray and Lara, a Lebanese couple from New York who had been following Djokovic for a long time and whom we had met countless times at tournaments. Incredibly pleasant people from a city where Djokovic has had many problems with the audience.

They, as well as their fellow New Yorker Krista, who is also here in Melbourne, are living proof that there are those who think and feel differently, and they swear that many of their friends from the “Big Apple” think the same about the best Serbian and world player of all time.

We will write about some of Novak’s fans who gathered here from all over the world in our reports for Serbian Times in the coming days.

And now we’re slowly heading to the stadium, where we hope Nole will have an easier match and won’t expend too much energy before the crucial clashes that await him in the rest of the tournament.

Greetings from Melbourne.
