The U23 3×3 basketball players of Serbia won the silver medal at the World Championship after a loss in the final in Shongun, China, to the selection of Lithuania with a score of 19:14.
This is the third medal overall for the U23 3×3 basketball selection of Serbia, more precisely a second silver along with one bronze from 2019.
The Serbian 3×3 basketball players opened this duel brilliantly and took a 3:0 lead, however, it didn’t take the Lithuanians long to come back and turn it around to 5:3. From that moment on, they did not relinquish the lead.
A tough game was played on both sides, and Lithuania used their height advantage under the hoop quite well. The Serbian 3×3 basketball players had a lot of bad passes and moves in the first four minutes.
The Lithuanian players led with 8:5, but Serbia managed to get to a tie – 8:8, and from that moment, it was played basket for basket.
With a little less than four minutes left, the opponent scored for 13:9, after which the Serbian 3×3 basketball players called a time-out. A lot of missed two-point shots and layups were the main problem for the Serbian selection.
The players of Serbia showed character nonetheless and managed to get to a one-point deficit – 15:14. They had several opportunities to turn the score around and break the match, but Rubinas hit a two-pointer with 25 seconds left in the encounter and practically solved the question of the winner.
The final score was 19:14 for Lithuania.
The most efficient in the Serbian ranks was Vuk Vukićević with six points, Marko Đorđević added five, Lazar Kovačević two, and Miloš Cvrkota one.
For the Lithuanians, Rokas Jocis, Jokubas Rubinas, and Kajus Leliukus each scored five points, while Nojus Vaivada scored four.
