A 27‑year‑old Serbian truck driver has been sentenced in France to four years in prison after more than 300 kilograms of drugs were found in his lorry, with an estimated value of around four million euros.
The Serbian national was arrested on February 9 in La Turbie, in southern France, when customs officers from Menton stopped a truck that had arrived from Serbia.
Although the documentation listed ceramic tiles as cargo, a detailed inspection revealed 15 bags full of drugs in the freight area.
Over 240 kilograms of marijuana, 27 kilograms of hashish, and nearly 67 kilograms of cocaine were seized. The drugs were not deeply hidden but placed among the declared goods.
In addition to the prison sentence, the French court imposed a 10‑year ban on entering the country.
The regional customs director in Nice described the seizure as “extremely large,” emphasizing that it is one of the more significant operations in recent times.
