Prime Minister Đuro Macut stated today that at the beginning of the year, the state showed an excessive degree of democracy, and as a result, “anarchy ruled the country for a moment.”
“I think that democracy in Serbia was truly extensive. That democratic approach may have been too great, without the use of force or coercion in the first half of the year. That may have encouraged people to enter into a kind of anarchist mode. At one point, anarchy ruled Serbia, but we are returning to normal,” said Macut.
At a gathering against blockades in Požarevac, commenting on the incident in front of the Parliament building in downtown Belgrade, he said that institutions cannot tolerate the unauthorized carrying of weapons and attacks in the middle of the city.
“If you don’t share the same opinion, you shouldn’t use firearms, force, or similar means,” said Macut.
According to him, it is necessary to work on increasing tolerance, since great tension is simmering within society.
The gatherings against blockades, allegedly organized by the Center for Social Stability, began today around 5 p.m. in Kraljevo, Požarevac, and Vranje.
Those gathered are carrying Serbian flags and balloons in red, blue, and white colors.
