The State Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina has today delivered a first-instance verdict against the President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, finding him guilty of disregarding the decisions of the High Representative. Dodik has been sentenced to one year in prison and banned from engaging in politics for six years!
Alongside Milorad Dodik, Miloš Lukić, acting director of the Official Gazette, was also charged but was acquitted of all accusations.
The indictment charged Dodik and Lukić with systematically undermining state authority by enacting laws that “separate” Republika Srpska from the jurisdiction of the Constitutional Court of BiH and refusing to recognize the decisions of the High Representative of the international community, Christian Schmidt. The BiH Prosecutor’s Office claims that these laws directly threatened the sovereignty of the state and paved the way for the de facto secession of Republika Srpska.

Dodik Addressed the Public Before the Verdict
Milorad Dodik addressed the public at a press conference in Banja Luka.
“We are a contracting party to the Dayton Peace Agreement,” Dodik stated.
In his speech, Dodik said that in the next few hours, “major decisions” would follow. He did not specify what these decisions would be but mentioned the Prosecutor’s Office, the Court of BiH, and the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council (VSTV).
“You do not exist,” Dodik said.
He also declared that he would continue to fight for Republika Srpska.
Among other things, he told BiH that it could “hang the verdict on a nail.”
“I will continue to do my job, I will remain a free man in my soul, and I will leave my position when the people say so. You from Sarajevo will not remove me, you can hang this verdict on a nail,” Dodik said.
