They saved many lives during “Oluja”. One is 55 years old, the other is five years older. A truck and its owner. Radoslav Milivojević, a man from Dalmatia, doesn’t sell his beloved vehicle or change its license plates even 30 years later. What kind of memories did they bring to Maradik near Inđija?
Of the million kilometers driven, Radoslav’s truck drove the most important route a quarter of a century ago. In August 1995, from Polača near Knin to Inđija. Behind the wheel was Radoslav Milivojević, and in the trailer there were almost 50 relatives, friends, neighbors, and soldiers.
“When we left from down there that night in August 1995, it was about who got with whom. Many were in our yard and in the village, they didn’t have anyone to go with or they didn’t want to leave at the beginning, and then they ran into me, I picked them up along the way,” said Radoslav Milivojević from Polača near Knin.
They started the journey without fuel. Kerosene took them to Bosanski Petrovac, and later diesel, which they managed to get liter by liter.
“Many people know this truck and remember our journey, and whenever we meet, we talk about it. You remember when we got prosciutto, salami, bread, when we got water, when we had a problem with diesel,” said Radoslav.
The beloved vehicle went into the garage for a well-deserved rest 10 years ago. He temporarily replaced it with a new truck.
“He saved all our possessions – my wife, my children, and later he earned us everything we have now. Now I’m driving the new one and working with it, and this one is waiting for better times for me and him to get back on the road again. I would like for him and me to have some fun, like we used to, to drive around,” said Radoslav.
Until then, parked, it keeps memories from his hometown. One is visible to the naked eye – the license plates.
“When I re-registered it with our plates, I had to return both plates. However, I wrote a statement that I had lost one. In fact, I lost it and then I found it,” said Radoslav Milivojević.
Radoslav and Lupeto are almost the same age, they have been inseparable for 30 years. They are holding up well, and they take care of each other.
“I always encouraged him – let’s go, let’s go, just a little more and so we have been together for so many years. He is what he is, he hasn’t changed much, maybe I have a little, but that’s how it is,” said Radoslav.
