The situation regarding the criminal prosecution of the president of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, represents a threat to the stability of Bosnia and Herzegovina, said last night the deputy permanent representative of Russia to the United Nations, Dmitry Polyansky, after closed consultations in the Security Council on the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina after Dodik’s mandate was taken away, held at the request of Russia.
At the press conference, Polyansky reiterated that the cause of the crisis in BiH is the decisions of the illegal high representative, who they call “Mr. Schmidt.”
“He is not recognized by Republika Srpska and likewise has not been confirmed in the Security Council of the United Nations. This is a problem with a certain history. We warned that some of his actions would potentially lead to a big problem. This is exactly what is happening,” Polyansky pointed out.
He said that the Security Council discussed problems that could become, as he said, “hot” if nothing is done, RTRS reports.
“We decided to draw the attention of the members of the Security Council to this unfortunate turn of events,” he added.
Polyansky hinted that this issue could be discussed at the next session of the UN Security Council.
The Central Election Commission (CEC) decided on Wednesday to take away the mandate of the president of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, and thus annul the electoral will of the citizens of Srpska.
Dodik has the right to appeal this decision.
The decision of the CEC was made after the Appellate Chamber of the so-called Court of BiH confirmed the first-instance verdict by which Dodik was sentenced to one year in prison and a six-year ban on political activity.
