Pedophile millionaire Jeffrey Epstein spent years trying to get an audience with Vladimir Putin, according to emails released by the US Department of Justice.

The Russian president was mentioned 1,055 times in the latest released Epstein documents, reports the Independent.

Emails with political figures show that Epstein was desperately trying to secure a meeting with Putin in early 2010, after his first conviction for procuring a child for prostitution.

Putin has been the President of Russia since 2012, but he served as Prime Minister for four years before that and has been the de facto leader of the country since 2000.

Updated files show how Epstein urged friends to schedule a meeting for him to discuss foreign investments in Russia from at least 2013 until 2018, a year before Epstein died in prison. It is not clear if they ever met.

Epstein sought a Russian visa

Epstein’s files, which now contain about 3.5 million records, show that Epstein was trying to obtain a Russian visa since at least 2010.

He asked a contact: “Do I need to get a visa? I have a friend of Putin’s, should I ask him?”

A year later, in August 2011, he told Emirati businessman Ahmed bin Sulayem that “Putin could come to the United States,” adding that he would rather meet him there, “so Sochi is unlikely.”

Over the years, the financier repeatedly discussed his hopes of meeting Putin with Thorbjørn Jagland, the former Prime Minister of Norway, who met with the Russian leader in his capacity as Secretary General of the Council of Europe.

Jagland characterized Epstein’s interest in a May 2013 email, telling Epstein that he would have to explain his proposals to Putin in person.

“You have to do it. My job is to schedule a meeting with him for you,” he said, adding: “Can I say this [to Putin]: I know you want to attract foreign investment to diversify the Russian economy […] I have a friend who can help you take the necessary measures (and then introduce you) and ask him if he is interested in meeting with you”.

Epstein wanted a meeting with Putin

That month, Epstein told Ehud Barak, the former Israeli Prime Minister, that he hoped to meet Putin for the first time in June to discuss how Russia could boost Western investment.

A few weeks later, he reported that he had canceled the meeting with Putin in Saint Petersburg, demanding that the Russian leader “allocate time and privacy” for him.

Inclusion in the Epstein files does not imply guilt. Barak admitted to visiting Epstein but claims he never noticed any inappropriate behavior or parties.

Jagland distanced himself from Epstein late last year, as a previous document release revealed they discussed Russia and US President Donald Trump in 2018.

In June 2013, Epstein sent an email to Jagland inviting Putin to dinner, documents show.

“Bill Gates will stay with me in Paris, Putin is welcome to join for dinner,” he said then.

Documents show that Epstein also tried to schedule a meeting with Putin in early 2014, when Jagland said he would meet with the president in Sochi.

That July, Epstein received an email from a contact stating: “I haven’t succeeded in convincing Reid to change his schedule to introduce Putin to you. ;-)”

Epstein replied: “Bad idea now after the plane crash”.

Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 crashed three days earlier, killing 283 people. A UN body ruled last year that Russia was responsible, although the Kremlin has always denied responsibility.

Documents show that Epstein again asked Jagland for help in 2015.

“I would still like to meet with Putin and discuss the economy, I would really appreciate your help,” he wrote then.

Epstein offered “insight into Trump”

In 2016, he asked Jagland when he would see Putin, and in 2017, he asked him to “talk to Putin about digital currencies… the future”.

On June 20, 2018, as previously reported, he sent an email to Jagland: “I would like to meet Putin”.

In a previously released file, it turned out that four days later Epstein tried to relay a message to the top Russian diplomat through Jagland.

“I think you could suggest to Putin that Lavrov get insight into a conversation with me,” he wrote in a June 24, 2018 email. “Lavrov” likely refers to Russian Foreign Minister and close Putin ally Sergey Lavrov.

“Vitaly Churkin used to do it… but he died…?!”, he added, referring to the late Russian ambassador to the UN, who died a year earlier.

Jagland said he would meet with Lavrov’s assistant and “suggest” it, to which Epstein replied: “Churkin was great. He understood Trump after our conversations. It’s not complicated. One must see to get something, it’s that simple”.

In a text message to the Norwegian public broadcaster NRK last year, Jagland said: “In my work, I have met many people, many have brought me into contact with even more of them. It is part of normal diplomatic activity”.

“From what has come to light about Jeffrey Epstein’s private life, I strongly distance myself. For me, it was particularly important to understand Donald Trump and what was developing in the relations between the United States and Europe… Many wanted to initiate the process of excluding Russia from the Council of Europe and thereby prevent Russian citizens from accessing the European Court of Human Rights. I used every opportunity to express my opinion on how serious this was,” he stated.

Many articles mentioning Putin mention him only superficially, as is the case with media reports sent to Epstein’s email address.

A separate email exchange from 2010 between Epstein and an email address named “The Duke”, included in the new files, suggests that Epstein also organized a dinner between former Prince Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and a “beautiful” 26-year-old Russian woman.

In the message, Epstein writes: “I have a friend with whom I think you would enjoy having dinner”.

In response, “The Duke” writes: “Of course. I am in Geneva until the morning of the 22nd, but I would be delighted to see her. Will she bring a message from you? Please give her my contact details to contact me”.

When asked for more information about the unnamed woman, Epstein replied: “She is 26 years old, a Russian who is smart, beautiful, reliable and yes, she has your email address”.

Connections with Russian intelligence and crime

The files also reveal that in 2015 Epstein discussed blackmail with Sergey Belyakov, then deputy Russian minister of economic development and a member of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB), the main successor to the KGB.

On July 24, 2015, Epstein asked for a favor from Belyakov, warning him that “a girl from Moscow is trying to blackmail a group of powerful businessmen in New York. This is bad for business for everyone involved.” In a later email, sent to himself, Epstein wrote about his “friends in the FSB”.

US security officials also believe that Epstein had long-standing ties with Russian organized crime, which could explain the ease with which he seemed to bring “girls” from Russia. Numerous emails point to Epstein’s interest in “Russian girls,” including requests to book flights for companions from Moscow to Paris and New York.
