The Ambassador of Russia to Serbia, Alexander Botsan-Kharchenko, stated that the American sanctions against the Oil Industry of Serbia (NIS) are exclusively a political decision and announced that Russia will continue to support Belgrade.
“Gazprom and Russia remain reliable partners and, of course, we have no intention of turning our backs on Serbia in this situation. Within the framework of our bilateral cooperation, Serbia will maintain its energy security, as it has until now,” said Botsan-Kharchenko, according to Tass.
He pointed out that now that the sanctions have been introduced, the most important thing is to understand this calmly, without unnecessary emotions.
“The decision by the American side was made a long time ago, then there were delays, and ultimately it is a completely political decision. There is nothing here concerning economics, energy, or anything else; it is a political decision,” he emphasized.
Regarding NIS, he added, the Russian Embassy is in constant contact with the company’s management; they prepared well, knowing that this decision would be made sooner or later; they have reserves and the capacity to adapt.
Botsan-Kharchenko expressed confidence that the situation on the Serbian market will remain stable in the near future.
“There is no need to expect shortages, disruptions, panic in the market, or any threats to Serbia’s energy security,” the Russian Ambassador stated.
