Former Croatian prime minister Ivo Sanader (72), after serving two-thirds of his sentence and being in two prisons, was released on parole today, reports N1 Zagreb.
He was released by the decision of the Sisak County Court.
Sanader was sentenced to a single prison sentence of 18 years for several criminal offenses, and during his sentence, he used the benefits prescribed by the Law on the Execution of Prison Sentences.
At the hearing held on July 31, it was decided that Sanader met the conditions for early release from prison.
Sanader was sentenced to seven years in prison for withdrawing money from public companies into the HDZ black fund and for unregistered donations, he was sentenced to six years for receiving 17.5 million kuna from Stjepan Fiolić, and he was sentenced to six years in prison for receiving a bribe of 10 million euros for ceding management rights over Ina to the Hungarian oil company.
The former prime minister has so far spent about seven and a half years behind bars, in detention or on a conviction.
