The director of the Machine Technical School in Čačak, Mirko Lazović, was dismissed today from his position, despite receiving the support of the School Board and the majority of employees, who consequently requested an urgent review of the Ministry of Education’s decision.
A statement from part of the school’s collective indicates that Vladan Poledica, an Informatics teacher at the “Ratko Mitrović” Elementary School in Čačak, was appointed as the new director, even though he received fewer votes than Lazović.
As stated, Lazović received 94 votes from employees in the school elections, while Poledica received 26 votes.
The employees of the Machine Technical School announced that the outgoing director Lazović has the legitimacy and support of the collective and that they will be “forced to take all legal steps to protect the integrity of the school and their rights.”
The collective of the Machine Technical School states that despite numerous pressures, the School Board respected the will of the collective and proposed Lazović to the Ministry of Education for director.

“The Ministry, contrary to all democratic principles and without any explanation, appointed another candidate. We perceive this act as a political imposition of a solution outside the law and profession, which humiliates the collective, devalues the opinion and stance of the employees, the work of school bodies, and undermines trust in the education system,” reads the statement from the collective of the Machine Technical School in Čačak.
The majority trade union of education workers in that city, “Education Union Čačak,” condemned the decision of the Minister of Education Dejan Vuk Stanković regarding the appointment of the director of the Machine Technical School, stating that it is “contrary to the will of the school collective and the School Board.”
The union assessed that the selection of a candidate who received fewer than one-fifth of the employee votes and had fewer votes on the School Board confirms that the decision-makers’ priority is not the well-being of the school, but the satisfaction of other interests.
