The family of the two-year-old boy from Leskovac who yesterday sustained severe burns from hot water under still unexplained circumstances is on the records of the local Center for Social Work, but only as recipients of financial social assistance. As confirmed by the director of this social welfare institution, Predrag Momčilović, there were no reports of violence, abuse, or neglect of children.
“The injured child is the youngest in that family; he is raised by a single mother who receives social assistance. Besides him, she has three other children aged four, five, and seven. They are one of about two thousand families from our area who receive social assistance. They are not beneficiaries of other benefits, nor have we ever had any reports of criminal acts of domestic violence, abuse, or neglect of children,” said Momčilović.
He adds that for now, the prosecuting authorities have not requested the involvement of their institution in this case.
FIND OUT MORE:
“According to my knowledge, the police immediately became involved in clarifying this event. When there are elements of a criminal offense, we are usually immediately involved. For now, we have not been called, we will see what happens next; it is possible that it was an accident,” Momčilović concluded.
The child arrived at the Children’s Dispensary in Leskovac yesterday at 10:45 AM, but due to the severity of the injuries, he was first transferred to the local General Hospital and from there to the University Clinical Center in Niš.
According to reports from the Niš hospital, the boy sustained burns on 60 percent of his body and is hospitalized in the intensive care unit of the Clinic for Pediatric Surgery and Orthopedics.
“The child is still in the intensive care unit at the Clinic for Pediatric Surgery and Orthopedics. He is conscious, awake, breathing spontaneously, but still in serious general condition,” the health institution announced today.
