At the meeting of the Active of Principals of primary and secondary schools held today, the item on the agenda “request of students in the blockade for accommodation of student pedestrians” was rejected. It was explicitly emphasized at the meeting that the accommodation must not be ceded to the students for use, IN Medija reports.

“There is no explanation from the president, only an explicit refusal and practically a ban on meeting the students’ request. Some colleagues are considering resigning as school principals due to this attitude towards the students and toward them, because it should be presented to the public that the principals decided not to allow accommodation when the truth is that it is not the principals’ will,” a source who was present at the meeting this morning told IN Medija.

The source of this media states that it was mentioned at the meeting that “information is leaking” to the media, which the local government considers bad moves by the educators.

The meeting of the Active of Principals was initially scheduled for Friday, and then postponed to Monday, October 27, at 9 a.m. The agenda contained only one item – the request of the blocked Inđija students for the temporary use of school halls for the accommodation of students who will be spending the night in Inđija on October 30, the text of this media states.

On October 9, the students sent the first request for the provision of space to the Mayor of Inđija Municipality, Marko Gašić, to which they did not receive an answer. On October 20, Gašić told IN Medija: “I don’t decide, I think they asked for a hall and some schools. The hall, as far as I know, is occupied, and for the schools, they have to ask the principals.”

Following that statement, the blocked students submitted several more written requests to two primary schools – “Petar Kočić” and “Dušan Jerković,” as well as to three secondary schools – “Mihajlo Pupin,” “Gimnazija,” and “Dr. Đorđe Natošević.”

On Thursday, October 23, the students tried, as stated, to personally deliver an inquiry to the Mayor, whom they met in the lobby of the building, but he “forwarded” them to his cabinet. That letter announced the arrival of a delegation of blocked students from Belgrade for Friday, October 24.

Mayor Gašić confirmed to IN Medija that he met with the students, that they announced their arrival for Friday, but that he plans to invite them for a conversation next week.

The blocked students from Inđija and Belgrade tried to hold a meeting with Gašić on Friday as announced, but the meeting did not happen.

According to IN Medija’s sources close to the local self-government of Stara Pazova, the “order from the top” is to reject the requests of the blocked students in Stara Pazova and Inđija. These requests, it is stated, “deeply shook” the local authorities of both municipalities because the views of the local government and the orders “from the top” diverge, it is stated. The entire burden of the decision has been transferred to the Active of School Principals, this media writes.

The blocked students announced that, if they are not granted accommodation again, they will spend the night in front of the Inđija Municipal Building. For the safety of the students during the overnight stay in Inđija, veterans and bikers, in addition to stewards and citizens of Inđija, have been announced.
