OPEN LETTER FROM PAVLE CICVARIĆ’S MOTHER: “President Vučić, do you also have knowledge that my son will be killed, as your official claims?”

After Siniša Vučinić, a member of the Main Board of the SNS, stated on Informer television that the murder of student Pavle Cicvarić was allegedly being planned, his mother, Jelena Žunić Cicvarić, reacted with an open letter, accusing the authorities of spreading fear and targeting her son.

We are transmitting her letter to you in its entirety:

President Vučić, Minister Dačić, Speaker of the Parliament Brnabić, I ask you: do you also have knowledge that Pavle Cicvarić, my son, will be killed?

What will you, the president of the country, the minister of police and the speaker of the National Assembly, do about the claims of the planned murder of Pavle Cicvarić, which were made on TV Informer by a member of the Main Board of the Serbian Progressive Party, Siniša Vučinić?

To whom can I turn as a mother, president of the country, if you also encouraged the persecution and labelling of Pavle and our whole family, which we have been suffering for more than two years, but never as morbidly and dangerously as today?

And do we even have a state if, after the claims made by Vučinić, the prosecution did not react urgently and call him for questioning, with the aim of preventing the announced crime?

I admit: after more than two years of the terror we have been enduring, and after Pavle called me and prepared me for the recording of Vučinić’s performance on TV Informer, I was not ready for what I was about to hear. The feeling of fear completely overwhelmed me. I lost my breath.

After the shock, however, a terrible anger followed and the need to scream: You will not scare us, frightened mice, you will answer for the evil you spread!

It is clear to me that the statement of the high-ranking SNS official is neither accidental nor spontaneous. Vučinić precisely said what the president has been announcing for months, speaking generally about “bloody scenarios”. In the staged play, the high-ranking official concretised those announcements, designating Pavle as the victim of a murder that will happen soon.

Our family takes the ominous announcement extremely seriously. It has been confirmed from several places that the situation is dangerous. We are worried that bloody scenarios are not only planned for Pavle, but also for many other prominent individuals who are fighting for a just and better Serbia – for those who are the recognizable faces of protest and rebellion.

We will take all legal measures at our disposal with our lawyers, and we will not persuade Pavle to give up the fight he is leading with all his heart.

We are proud of Pavle, of his male and female colleagues, male and female comrades, of their determination and uncompromising fight for a just Serbia.

We convey Pavle’s words and stand behind them: “This is another attempt to intimidate those who raise their voice against the regime. The attack has gone to a new, higher level, where they literally threaten with death, which is not at all pleasant. In fact, it’s terrifying. To run and hide – WE WILL NOT, because Serbia is our country and it will soon be free and democratic. I believe that this is another frantic move by the regime, and that the reasons lie in the loss of support and the tightening of the noose around them. We have more and more reactions from international European media, reactions from the European parliament, internally the rebellion and dissatisfaction are growing, and that, step by step, is cornering the regime. That’s why they become panicked and brutal. You will not intimidate me!”
