American businessman of Serbian origin Goran Petković addressed an open letter to the American and Serbian public regarding the sale of the Russian share package in the Oil Industry of Serbia (NIS). Namely, he believes that the already announced sale of 49% to Hungary’s MOL is harmful to Serbia and will jeopardize relations with the Trump administration and the United States.

Goran Petković is a member of the Republican Party, was a major donor to Donald Trump’s election campaign last year, and is a regular guest at receptions at the U.S. president’s residence in Mar-a-Lago, where he also celebrated Trump’s return to the White House in November.

“The manner in which Nicolás Maduro was arrested speaks to the determination of the United States of America. Misunderstanding of Serbian media

U.S. President Donald Trump, as the most energetic president in U.S. history, spoke about these moments already during his election campaign. Unfortunately, Serbian media in Serbia currently lack sufficient understanding of events on the American continent, because it is not known and not sufficiently discussed that in this case the MONROE DOCTRINE from 1823 has been implemented, which was also reaffirmed in 1933.

The bringing to justice of Maduro is not an event that happened out of the blue, but, like everything the U.S. government does, it was very precisely planned, announced, and carried out with a large number of warnings. We must not forget that relations between America and Venezuela have been strained for years due to Venezuelan drug trafficking and the nationalization of the oil industry, where American companies were banned from operating by the regime.

In recent weeks, a larger number of aircraft carriers have been present in the American Gulf, positioned to prevent any form of escalation of conflict on Venezuelan territory. As is evident, no uncontrolled conflict occurred.

Will the recovery of Venezuela as a state be carried out with the help of rebuilding the oil industry in Venezuela? Of course it will. America will support the development of industry, trade, and agriculture in Venezuela. America is very interested and ready for this to be carried out with the help of American expertise, capital, and cooperation with American companies.

This could be precisely the model, or the path, for resolving the crisis in Serbia related to NIS. As a person who has worked for three of the largest companies in the oil industry and who is engaged in trucking transportation, for decades I have achieved business cooperation with almost all major American oil companies (Exxon Mobil, Chevron, etc.).

It is incomprehensible that NIS is being offered to the Hungarian company MOL, which is smaller than NIS and is also a regional refiner and oil importer like NIS, without first having serious negotiations with American producers or some other larger companies. Many in the American oil industry find it unclear why there is insistence on the Hungarian company MOL, which is not even a significant European producer, but rather a regional refiner.

American warnings Serbia should take seriously

I say all this as a fact that in the near future could be a serious limitation for Serbia’s further progress and cooperation with major global economic powers, primarily the United States. The sovereignty of a country is reflected in its orientation and alignment with the globally strongest countries in the world.

If America has been sending warnings to Serbia for months about possible secondary sanctions and the necessity of resolving Russian participation in NIS’s capital, then this should be taken very seriously and solutions should be sought with an American company.

In diplomacy, it is most important to start negotiations on time.
