The NBA league is richer for another Serbian basketball player! Bogoljub Marković was chosen as the 47th pick in the second round of the NBA draft by the Milwaukee Bucks, so the former Mega player is now a new member of the famous Wisconsin club and one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference.
Before the draft, there was talk that Marković might be chosen by Sacramento or Toronto, from a slightly higher position, but in the end, the Bucks chose the great Serbian talent.
Asim Đulović and Lazar Gačić from OKK Belgrade also applied for the NBA draft this year, but only the basketball player from Užice was drafted.
Bogoljub Marković had an excellent season with Mega, where he averaged 13.9 points, 6.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists, one steal and one block per game, with excellent shooting percentages (54 percent from the field, 41% for three, 76% free throws) and was declared the Rising Star of the ABA League for the past season.
It was particularly interesting to Americans that he comes from Mega, from which Nikola Jokić, Nikola Jović, and Nikola Topić, who played for Mega before Crvena Zvezda, have already arrived in the NBA. Marković first showed his talent at the “Nike Hoops” event when he played for the World Team and recorded 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Golden “Eaglet,” Debuted with Pešić
He began playing basketball in his hometown of Užice for the “Play-Off” team, from where he moved to Sloboda, and then established himself in Mega’s junior categories, where he gradually paved his way to the very top, which he eventually reached. He was born on July 12, 2005, in the city on the Đetinja river.
With the junior national team of Serbia, Bogoljub Marković won a gold medal at the European Championship for players under 18, which was held in Niš. He has already made his debut in the senior team, as Svetislav Pešić included him for the EuroBasket qualification windows last November and February.
American experts compare Bogoljub Marković to Nemanja Bjelica, while in today’s basketball he has a similar playing style to Franz Wagner, Lauri Markkanen, Chet Holmgren, or Santi Aldama. It remains to be seen what role he will have in the new team and whether, like Nikola Đurišić, he will take the path of the developmental G-League or immediately find his place with the Bucks.
He will certainly have the opportunity to show himself in the Summer League, where second-round picks often manage to secure a place on the team first, and then playing time as the season progresses.
It should be noted that the selection of Bogoljub Marković is very important for Milwaukee’s future. Shams Charania, the most famous NBA insider, reported that Giannis Antetokounmpo closely followed the NBA draft and waited to see who the Bucks would choose. In addition, he is waiting for the transfer market to open on July 1, so that free agents can be signed, which will all together greatly affect his stay or potential departure from the Bucks.
In the first round of the NBA draft, held on the night between Wednesday and Thursday, Cooper Flag was chosen as the first pick by Dallas, Vasa Micić was traded again, and the draft itself was also marked by a scandal involving a young basketball player chosen by Rajaković’s Toronto.
