The Ministry of Health has made a decision to introduce 24-hour operation in health centers throughout the territory of Serbia starting Monday, November 17, with the aim of increasing the availability of healthcare to citizens and ensuring the more efficient functioning of the healthcare system.
As stated in the announcement, the Minister of Health, Zlatibor Lončar, said that by extending the working hours of health centers, citizens are enabled to receive basic medical assistance at any time of day or night, without the need to contact emergency centers for non-urgent conditions.
“In this way, the secondary and tertiary levels of healthcare will be relieved, and patients will receive the necessary help faster and more efficiently,” Lončar stated.
He added that analyzes have shown that a large number of patients report to emergency centers with complaints that can be adequately treated in health centers.
“By introducing 24-hour operation, we want to provide citizens with the security and confidence that they can receive help at any moment, while at the same time enabling doctors in hospitals to dedicate themselves to the most severe and life-threatening cases,” Lončar said.
The announcement emphasizes that the Ministry of Health has secured all the necessary conditions for the implementation of this measure – from staffing reinforcements and organization of duty shifts, to technical and logistical support.
“Our goal is for healthcare to be available to every citizen of Serbia, at any time of day or night, in a safe environment and with the expert support of healthcare workers. This is an important step towards creating a modern and efficient healthcare system that provides security to citizens and better working conditions for health professionals,” said Zlatibor Lončar.
