A large number of members of the communal militia, known as the “Whites,” were deployed in Nehru Street in New Belgrade, where they appeared to secure works on electrical installations.
Residents of Block 45 claim that the works are illegal and are protesting against them, reports N1.
Aleksandar Salapura, one of the representatives of the residents, stated that they received information about the workers and that the works are unlawful, without any permits.
Salapura claims that the City of Belgrade plans to run large power cables through the embankment and that 60% of the capacity of the nearby transformer station, intended for existing buildings, is planned to be used to supply the river barges.
The residents expressed concern about the safety and feasibility of such a project. The works, they noted, are being carried out by the company “Elektroizgradnja,” in violation of all regulations.
Citizens organized to keep watch at the site and announced that they would fight against decisions of the City made without consultation with the local population.
Salapura stated that over 400 meters of trenches have been dug and that works have also started at another location, which is why the residents will split up and monitor the situation.
