Students participating in the blockade of the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (VIŠER) in Belgrade reported being attacked last night by unknown individuals who were drawing a graffiti of a red middle finger on the wall of the institution.
In a statement posted on Instagram, the VIŠER students in blockade claimed that an unidentified young man had drawn the silhouette of a middle finger on the school’s facade, “clearly with the intention of provoking students involved in the blockade.”
“The security guard and students reacted quickly to stop the perpetrator but were attacked in the process. The individual was not acting alone; he was accompanied by several people who later came to his aid and actively caused conflict with our peers,” the statement reads.
According to the students, during the incident, a student and the security guard sustained injuries, including bites, while the attacker threatened to return, stating he would “smash everyone’s heads.”
“We strongly condemn this act of violence and provocation against students who are peacefully expressing their views. Such incidents represent a serious blow to freedom of expression and the safety of all participants in the blockade,” the statement adds.

The students called on the public to denounce these acts of violence and invited all faculties, student organizations, and individuals to join them on Tuesday at 11:52 a.m. in front of VIŠER to “show solidarity, unity, and perseverance in the fight for students’ rights.”
In a video shared by the students, a young man can be seen being held while issuing threats. In another video, several individuals in black jackets with hoods are seen demanding that the students release the young man before the police arrive.
