Montenegro will adopt a new Gun Law, and everyone who owns a firearm will undergo strict checks, Prime Minister Milojko Spajić announced after the session of the National Security Council.

People with gun permits will have until January 1, 2026, to pass new, much stricter inspections. Those who fail to pass will be required to surrender their firearms, or they will be considered illegal, stated Prime Minister Milojko Spajić, according to Vijesti.

Following the session of the National Security Council, Spajić emphasized that Montenegro’s authorities will take an uncompromising stance.

“People who want to own firearms will go through the toughest checks in Europe,” declared the Montenegrin Prime Minister.

He also announced that all legal gun owners must undergo rigorous psychological and security assessments by the end of the year to renew their permits.

According to Spajić, individuals who do not voluntarily surrender illegal firearms within the next two months will face severe penalties.

When asked whether he would seek the dismissal of Interior Minister Danilo Šaranović, Spajić responded, “Regarding the reconstruction, which will happen periodically, we have a methodology for evaluating ministers, and through that methodology, we will review each minister and assess their performance.”

He explained that the plan was to present a new methodology for ministerial evaluation during the first session of the government.

“There will be an evaluation of all ministers’ work. The current Minister of Justice only began effectively working on all legal solutions in September. The public can judge whether everything could have been resolved in four months. Could it have been done better? Yes, it could,” Spajić concluded.
