Brian Walshe has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the murder of his wife, with concurrent sentences for secondary criminal offenses.
As a reminder, the jury on Monday unanimously found Brian Walshe (50) guilty of first-degree murder. The defense tried to prove that Walshe found Ana Walshe dead in their bed, due to unexplained circumstances, shortly after a New Year’s party, and that he then reacted in a panic.
However, prosecutors presented claims that their marriage was falling apart and that Brian Walshe needed money from Ana’s life insurance policy, worth more than a million dollars. As evidence that the murder was intentional and planned in advance, they pointed to internet searches that Walshe performed, some of which were extremely grisly. The prosecution also showed the jury surveillance camera footage showing Walshe buying cleaning supplies in local stores, as well as a saw and a hammer that were later found in the trash.
During eight days, the prosecution called about 50 witnesses, including two of Ana’s close friends and others who described their contacts with her in the final days of her life. Walshe ultimately decided not to testify, and the defense rested its case without presenting any evidence.
Ana Walshe’s body has never been found.
