The Bar Association of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina has sent a letter of support to their colleagues from the Bar Association of Serbia, who are halting work today.
“The Bar Association of the Federation of BiH fully supports its colleagues, the lawyers of the Republic of Serbia, in their struggle to preserve the rule of law and legal certainty.

egarding the decisions and procedures related to the manner of adopting laws without the participation of the bar, the selective prosecution of those responsible for the tragedy in Novi Sad and the participants in the protests in Novi Sad, and due to the systematic and long-term interference of the executive branch in the work of the judiciary and the violation of the principle of separation of powers in a democratic society, the Bar Association of the Federation of BiH expresses its concern,” the letter of support states.

They add that they believe that such actions not only undermine the fundamental principles of justice but also jeopardize the trust of citizens in all institutions that should serve to protect their rights.

“We believe that the struggle of the Bar Association of Serbia will contribute to the further strengthening of the rule of law, that it will be a call to all relevant institutions to protect legality and justice, as well as a call to all lawyers to unite in order to respect the basic postulates of justice and not allow any form of illegality or inequality to affect the legal system of the state,” they conclude in the letter.

Support from Montenegro

Support for the lawyers from Serbia has also arrived from their colleagues in Montenegro, who in their statement say that they express full and unconditional support for the activities of the Bar Association of Serbia in the fight to preserve the bar as an independent and autonomous profession, which represents a fundamental pillar of the judicial system.

Support from Republika Srpska

Support has also arrived from the Bar Association of Republika Srpska, which states that it provides full support. “Any interference of the executive branch in the work of the judiciary, which must impartially and objectively perform one of the basic functions in a democratic society, is unacceptable, which is why any selectivity in the prosecution of those responsible for criminal offenses is unacceptable,” they state, among other things, in the letter which can be found on the AKS website.
