Director Emir Kusturica has requested that the Higher Court in Belgrade prohibit Željko Mitrović from broadcasting a video created by artificial intelligence that uses Kusturica’s likeness and voice, the Tomanović Law Firm announced.

The director demands that the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office and REM initiate proceedings against PINK for broadcasting the video.

“Due to the use of technology to forge and create an offensive synthesized audio and video recording, Emir Kusturica, through the Tomanović Law Firm, demands that the Special Department for High-Tech Crime of the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade initiate proceedings and demand the removal of the video in question, that REM initiate proceedings against PINK, and that the Higher Court in Belgrade issue a temporary measure and prohibit Željko Mitrović from further broadcasting and making the unlawful processing of voice and image available to the public in any other way,” the statement from the Tomanović Law Firm says, as reported by N1.

The office adds that the video’s creator cannot justify the insult and illegal conduct with alleged satire, emphasizing that “the video is neither satire nor an artistic or any other legally permissible form of expression but rather a legally prohibited act contrary to the public interest.”

Emir Kusturica published an author’s text titled “So, what did Žeks do to us?” to which the owner of TV Pink responded with a video created by artificial intelligence, in which the director’s likeness and voice were used to create a video material in which Kusturica allegedly speaks. In that video, Kusturica allegedly says himself that his father carried out liquidations for the UDBA, that he worked for the UDBA, and that he is in love with those who kill children in the east.
