Justice Minister Nikola Selaković has taken upon himself the task of uncovering the background of the assassination of Prime Minister Zoran Đinđić on March 12, 2003.

This was confirmed by Jelko Kacin, the European Parliament’s rapporteur for Serbia. Kacin states that information about the assassination of Đinđić also exists in neighboring countries and that Serbia’s cooperation with the region on this case is necessary.

  • If it wants faster progress, Serbia must deal with this. Both the state and its citizens must in some way distance themselves from what was done in their name – says the Slovenian parliamentarian.

Kacin stated in an interview for “Dnevnik” that he had been informed that there is additional

documentation “outside Serbia” related to the background of the assassination of Prime Minister Zoran Đinđić, which could be used if a new investigation is launched.

  • Serbia must provide that answer, primarily for its own sake, and not because of EU demands. In order for the rule of law to truly take root…, all open questions related to the activities of the security services and their connections with organized crime and political structures must be clarified. All of these elements are present in the assassination of Đinđić – Kacin told today’s Novi Sad daily Dnevnik.
