The young American of Serbian descent is also the youngest competitor remaining in the Melbourne draw at just 18 years old.
The Jović–Putintseva match lasted only 54 minutes.
Jović was especially dominant in the first set, delivering a “bagel” to her opponent, and nearly did the same in the second set. She broke twice, Putintseva broke back once, but Iva secured another break to confirm her victory.
In the semifinals of the first Grand Slam of the season, Iva Jović will face Arina Sabalenka, the world’s top-ranked player.
