Forty schoolgirls were killed at a girls’ school in the city of Minab in southern Iran during U.S. and Israeli attacks, Al Jazeera reports.
The first fatalities in the attacks, which began this morning, were reported by the state news agency IRNA.
The Iranian paramilitary Revolutionary Guard has a base in Minab, and it announced this morning that it retaliated by launching a “wave of missiles” at Israel.
The President of the United States, Donald Trump, after the attacks began, called on the public in Iran to “take control of their destiny” and rise up against, as he added, the Islamic leadership.
The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that it “will not hesitate” to respond to the attacks.
In a statement posted on X, it was said that “the time has come to defend the homeland and resist the hostile attack.”
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard also attacked U.S. military facilities in Bahrain, Kuwait, and Qatar.
Airspace over Iran and Iraq is closed, and commercial flights are being canceled en masse.
