Husein Alijević began his music and dance career at the age of 16, performing at a large Džej Ramadanovski concert at the Fair, in front of 30,000 people. Fate would have it that more than 30 years later, he would begin his acting career by playing Džej in the film “Nedelja” (Sunday)!

These days, he’s in Chicago promoting the film, where he just won an award for Best Actor at the recently concluded film festival. And more than deservedly so, at least if you trust my taste, and certainly the taste of the jury, which was presided over by a great man like Tihomir Stanić…

Listen to what Husa told us about himself, about Džej, whom he knew for over three decades, about the dangerous guys from Belgrade’s streets in those infamous 1990s, about how much trouble he had in life because he was a Roma, and much more…

Watch the exclusive interview that our editor Antonije Kovačević did with Husa…

Note: The term “Džej” (Jay) is a nickname and is often used in the Serbian context to refer to the famous folk singer Džej Ramadanovski. The interviewer is suggesting that Džej, through his music and influence, helped to prevent violence in Belgrade during a tumultuous period.
