Serbian Army Warrant Officer Vladimir Brkušanin stated that yesterday, during a routine task of providing security for a specific person, he and his colleagues were the targets of an attack by a group of nearly 100 people armed with metal and wooden sticks, flares, rocks, and firecrackers.
“The attack was violent. We offered mostly passive resistance, protecting vital parts of our bodies and resisting as much as we could. When they surrounded us on three sides, with a wall behind us, I assessed that my life and the lives of my colleagues were in danger. I used a firearm and fired a shot into the air, in a safe direction. At that moment, the attackers scattered,” said Brkušanin, emphasizing that his decision prevented more severe consequences.
He added that he has been in this line of work for more than 20 years and has never before faced such a level of hatred and rage toward authorized officials, even though the attackers were repeatedly warned who they were and what authority they had.
The Director of the Military Security Agency stated that the Ministry of Defense and the Serbian Army, together with other competent authorities, will identify all participants in the attack and take measures prescribed by law.
