Amid all the problems off the court, basketball appears to be a спас for Luka Dončić. The Los Angeles Lakers star revealed this week that he has ended his engagement with Anamaria Goltes. He and his former fiancée are currently involved in a dispute over custody of their two daughters.

However, despite everything currently happening in his private life, Luka Dončić is still playing at the highest level.

The Slovenian scored 51 points in the Lakers’ 142–130 victory over the Chicago Bulls on Thursday night.

Based on his performances this season, it would not appear that there are any problems in Luka’s private life.

He leads the NBA in points per game (32.9) and has the third-highest average assists per game (8.5). He is also, according to the latest ranking released by the NBA, fourth on the list for MVP this season.

After the win against the Bulls, Luka was asked how he manages to keep his private problems from affecting his play on the court.

“Okay. That’s life. What can I say. But that’s my job, I have to be there. The Lakers pay me a lot of money to play for them. Basketball and the games give me peace of mind,” he replied.

Last August the Lakers signed Luka to a three-year contract extension worth around 165 million dollars (about 151 million euros).

Although he has managed to block out everything that is happening to him once the game begins, these days it is not easy for him to see his little girls.

On Thursday, after the game, Luka visited UCLA Health with Lebron James and brought gifts to patients, sick children, but also newborn babies.

He said how much that visit meant to him. He explained that what many patients are going through made him reflect on his own situation and realize that his problems seem much smaller in comparison.

“At the end of the day you go there and then you realize that you actually have no problems in life at all. Health is everything. That is the most important thing in life. Then you realize that, you know, you actually have no problems at all. Just the fact that yesterday I had the chance to talk with them was really, really incredible. I truly appreciate it,” he said, according to American media.

Argument in the maternity ward and breakup of the engagement

TMZ reported on March 10, 2026, that Luka Dončić’s former fiancée, Anamaria Goltes, filed a lawsuit against him seeking child support for their two daughters, as well as coverage of attorney fees.

ESPN journalist Dave McMenamin stated that the lawsuit was filed in California.

Goltes (27) lives in Slovenia with their two daughters, after returning to that Central European country in May 2025.

Their older daughter Gabriela was born in 2023 in the United States, and Olivia last December in Slovenia.

Dončić confirmed to ESPN on March 10 that he and Goltes had broken off their engagement, stating that the inability to see their daughters was the main reason for the split.

“I love my daughters more than anything and I did everything I could for them to be with me in the U.S. during the season, but that was not possible, so I recently made the difficult decision to end the engagement. Everything I do, I do for the happiness of my daughters and I will always fight to be with them and give them the best life I can,” he said.

Dončić proposed to Goltes in July 2023, after seven years of a relationship. The couple have known each other since childhood and have been together since their teenage years.

The Lakers star went to Slovenia in December to attend the birth of his younger daughter and because of that he missed two games.

McMenamin stated that Dončić expressed a desire to bring Gabriela to the United States for an away game on December 7, 2025.

However, according to US Weekly, Goltes reportedly did not want that.

Slovenian police were called on December 6 after a disagreement between Dončić and Goltes in the maternity ward in Kranj.

ESPN states that Dončić “calmly left the hospital”.

The police report from that day, which ESPN reviewed, states that the police “did not establish elements of a criminal offense or misdemeanor” committed by Dončić.

Dončić flew back to the United States the same day. When reporters asked him about returning to Slovenia for the birth of his daughter, he said it was “like a roller coaster ride”.

“I don’t even know how to describe it. There was a lot going on. I was there when my daughter was born and that means everything to me. But it definitely felt like a roller coaster,” Dončić said.

Sources close to the situation told ESPN that Dončić covers all the expenses of his family.

He has also filed a temporary request with a Slovenian court seeking urgent contact with Gabriela and Olivia.

ESPN reports that Dončić has seen his daughters twice since the start of the Lakers’ preparations.

Meanwhile, rumors appeared that Dončić is in a relationship with actress Madelyn Cline, but they were denied.

Fans believed that Dončić and the actress from the series “Outer Banks” were a couple after noticing that they follow each other on Instagram. However, according to a source for TMZ, not only are they not in a relationship but they have never even met.
