Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban stated today, after talks with US President Donald Trump in the White House, that he received an exemption from US sanctions on Russian energy products.
Orban said that Hungary has successfully protected its plan to reduce energy bills, and that it will be fully exempted from sanctions related to the TurkStream and Druzhba gas pipelines, the Hungarian agency MTI reported.
Trump and Orban met earlier today in the White House to discuss Hungary’s dependence on Russian oil and the possibilities of strengthening economic cooperation between the two countries.
This is their first bilateral meeting since Trump returned to the White House in January, Reuters reported.
Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs Peter Szijjarto confirmed the news on social networks.
“We signed: Hungary’s energy supply is secured!” Szijjarto wrote.
