A boat capsized in the Sava river in Slavonski Brod early Thursday morning, the Brod-Posavina County Police Administration confirmed for 24sata.
According to initial information from the police, more than one person is dead, and several have been resuscitated. The injured were transported to the Slavonski Brod General Hospital “Dr. Josip Benčević.”
— For now, we have admitted 11 people whom we are currently treating. More about their health status will be known after the medical processing that is underway — the director of the Brod hospital, Dr. Josip Samardžić, told Infopix.
Firefighters, police, Emergency Medical Services, and HGSS were on the scene.
— This morning at 5.38 a.m., we received a call from the Emergency Medical Services that there had been a capsizing and drowning of migrants on the Sava river. We went out with two fire trucks and a fire boat. There were 11 migrants, we rescued eight alive and three dead — the commander of the Slavonski Brod Public Fire Brigade, Ivan Vuleta, stated for Hina.
A person (a citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina) who is linked to the commission of a criminal offense (Art. 326 of the Criminal Code) is also in the hospital and under police supervision.
The police continue to work on establishing the facts and circumstances of this event.
